To accommodate the needs of our growing customer base, we expanded our Wauchula office, added a remote drive-thru and opened an additional branch in Zolfo Springs.
Expanding Our Potential
The Crews family establishes a holding company, Crews Banking Corporation, that today includes Wauchula State Bank, First State Bank of Arcadia, Charlotte State Bank & Trust and Englewood Bank & Trust with 26 offices covering 11 counties throughout Central Florida.
The bank opens its first branch office in Bowling Green.
Pioneers in Banking
Wauchula State Bank rented oxen and buggy for a week in the early 1960s. On the side of the wagon, the slogan reads, "Wauchula State Bank: Pioneers in Banking established in 1929." A real cowboy from Wyoming gave the residents of Wauchula rides around town. In the picture (from left) are banker Bill Crews, the cowboy and his son and Will Emmitt Patton.
Enduring Strength, Timeless Values
Our landmark clock was installed on the northwest corner of the bank building and is still operational today. It stands as a symbol for our tradition and history.
J.W. Crews, Sr. purchases controlling interest in Wauchula State Bank and is named President.
Wauchula State Bank has served the Florida Heartland since 1929 as a family-owned, locally managed, community bank. In May 1932, J.W. Crews, Sr. purchased controlling interest in Wauchula State Bank and today the bank is still owned and operated by the Crews Family. Today, Wauchula State Bank is part of a four bank holding company with total assets of more than $1.3 billion. In addition to Wauchula State Bank, Crews Banking Corporation owns Charlotte State Bank & Trust, Englewood Bank & Trust and First State Bank of Arcadia. Each bank has their own president and their decisions are made locally in each of these markets.
